Armand — data analyst and engineer
Bamenda, Cameroon

Hi, I'm Armand.

Data Manager, Analyst & Engineer · Data-science tutor

I started in pure mathematics, fell for the part of the world where numbers meet real decisions, and have spent the last five-plus years turning messy data into systems people can trust. Today I manage data for multi-site clinical research at CHPR in Bamenda, take on freelance analytics and automation work, and teach the tools I use every day. My favourite projects are the ones where careful data work quietly changes what a team can do.

How I got here

My foundation is mathematics — a BSc in Pure Mathematics from the University of Bamenda (2015–2018) that taught me to sit with a hard problem until it makes sense. Wanting to build things rather than only prove them, I earned a master's in Artificial Intelligence (Simplilearn–IBM, 2019–2021) and worked as an AI and machine-learning engineer, remotely for teams in India. At Shiga Corp and then Rework AI I fine-tuned open-source GPT models from Hugging Face, built tools like résumé and job-description generators, scraped and shaped data, and shipped Streamlit apps.

In April 2022 I joined CHPR — a healthcare NGO in Bamenda — as Data Manager, and everything clicked. Clinical research generates exactly the messy, high-stakes data I enjoy: multiple databases, lab machines exporting in different languages and encodings, field teams collecting on phones, and reports that have to be right. I architect the pipelines that pull it together, the data-quality checks that keep it trustworthy, the Microsoft 365 automations that remove manual work, and the Power BI dashboards people rely on. In 2023 I earned the Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification.

Along the way I kept getting asked the same thing: "Can you help me with my data?" — students before a thesis defence, colleagues with a spreadsheet that wouldn't behave, small organizations drowning in exports. So I began taking on freelance work and tutoring on the side, and found I love the teaching as much as the building. That's why this site has two halves: the work I deliver, and the skills I help other people learn.

Experience & education

A short timeline — most recent first.

Apr 2022 – Present
Data Manager Officer — CHPR, Bamenda
Healthcare NGO · Cameroon (Full-time)
Architect and maintain end-to-end data pipelines across multiple research sites — data-quality frameworks, REDCap systems, custom Azure / Microsoft Graph apps and Power Automate flows between SharePoint and Teams, plus Power BI dashboards built with Power Query and Power Pivot. Supervise junior data staff and run training on REDCap, Power BI and Data Quality Assessment.
2023
Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Associate
Professional certification
Certified in data modeling, DAX, Power Query and report design — the backbone of the dashboards I build.
Mar 2021 – Sep 2022
Machine Learning Engineer — Rework AI
IT · India (Remote)
Engineered and deployed end-to-end AI products — a job-description generator and a résumé/CV generator — by fine-tuning open-source GPT models from Hugging Face, with web-scraped data pipelines and Streamlit front-ends that shipped straight into the core product.
Sep 2020 – Mar 2021
AI Engineer — Shiga Corp
Education · India (Remote)
Researched cutting-edge algorithms and shipped production-level Python, mentored teammates on emerging ML techniques, and accelerated model development and experimentation by ~25% through reusable code libraries (TensorFlow, Streamlit, deep learning).
2019 – 2021
MSc, Artificial Intelligence
Simplilearn–IBM · Online
Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence — applied machine learning, deep learning and data science.
2015 – 2018
BSc, Pure Mathematics
University of Bamenda · Cameroon
Bachelor's in Pure Mathematics — the rigorous problem-solving foundation everything else is built on.

A few things people ask

What do you actually do day-to-day? +

I turn raw, messy data into something reliable and useful: cleaning and joining datasets, automating the boring exports, building data-quality checks, and creating dashboards and reports that answer real questions. For students, I do the same thing one-on-one — with their own thesis data.

Can you handle messy, large or multilingual data? +

Yes — that's most of my work. I've unified five separate databases into one reporting system, parsed lab-machine exports across four character encodings and two languages, and issued around two million collision-free tracking codes. Messy is normal.

Do you do the analysis, or teach me to do it? +

Both, depending on what you need. For organizations, I deliver the finished work. For students, I tutor — I walk you through every step so you understand and can defend it yourself. I never ghost-write a thesis.

Which tools do you use? +

Python (pandas, Polars, scikit-learn), SQL, Power BI, SAS, Excel and SPSS, plus REDCap, Airflow and the Microsoft 365 / Graph stack for automation. I pick the tool that fits the problem and your context — not the trendiest one.

Do you work remotely, and in French? +

Yes to both. I'm based in Bamenda and work with people locally and remotely. Native French, fluent English — sessions, reports and deliverables can be in either language.
